Here is a neat little trick for Minecraft Pi: Edition taught to me by my students: In Minecraft Pi edition, there is a way to load custom maps made for the Pocket Edition (PE) version of Minecraft - including Survival maps! Technically you are still in creative mode (Currently, as of writing this blog, there is no support for survival mode in the Pi edition) however, by installing a survival map, you will get night and day modes, animals, crops and even treasure chests. |
1. Load Minecraft and create a new world
2. Locate a website that hosts Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE) maps e.g. Minecraft Forums (Note: Although these maps are designed to work on the PE version of Minecraft, as Minecraft Pi: Edition is a port of the PE version, most of the maps should work.)
3. Download a Survival map (Note: If the map is in .zip format, you will need to extract it first)
4. Open “FileManager”
5. Click on “View” and tick the “Show Hidden” box
10. Open the new world
